WALTER'S BIOGRAPHY

WALTER J. GOTTLIEB is an independent television producer, writer and director with more than twenty years’ experience in non-fiction television and video programming. He has written and produced for the Discovery Times Channel, TLC, HGTV, Lifetime, PBS, CBS, FOX, USA Networks, and the (former) Military Channel, among others. From 2000-2002, he was the main contributing writer for the host wraps unit of "National Geographic Explorer" on MSNBC-TV.

Walter produced, wrote, and directed a documentary on the history of his hometown, Silver Spring, MD, entitled "Silver Spring: Story of an American Suburb" for WETA-TV (PBS) in Washington. The film became WETA's highest-grossing pledge special of 2002.

He is currently developing a lifestyle program for American Public Television, entitled "Great Breakfast Adventures," and producing a documentary for public television, "Heart & Soul: The Life & Music of Frank Loesser," about the composer of Broadway's "Guys & Dolls."

In the non-broadcast market, he has produced and written educational videos, marketing videos, webcasts, live video conferences, video news releases and training videos for institutional and government clients - including the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Inter-American Development Bank, the National Institute of Health Care Management, Fannie Mae, and Discovery Communications, among others.

Before becoming an independent producer, he launched and served as senior producer on two PBS series, "This is America with Dennis Wholey" and "America: Personal Conversations with Dennis Wholey," and co-produced Fox Television’s award-winning, rock 'n roll political show, "Off the Record."

He spent the first seven years of his career in the trenches of television news. Walter is a graduate of New York University's Film & Television school, with a double major in History. He is the winner of several awards, including two Emmy awards, two Cindys, two Tellys, and two awards from the International Labor Communications Association.
